Directions: The culture study unit is designed to encourage cultural literacy. This means that students are encouraged to develop empathy and an understanding about a part of the world that is not traditionally part of their own.
- Create a document calledculture_study.doc.
- Save the file in the social studies folder.
- Link the culture study unit to the social studies home page.
- Listen to a presentation about a cultural problem that exists in another part of the world. This could possibly be another part of the United States but preferably it would be another country.
- In your document, write an essay that clearly describes the problem that citizens in that country face.
- What is the problem?
- Why does the problem exist in that country?
- How did the problem originate?
- What has the country done to try and solve the problem?
- How successful has that country been in solving the problem?
- As a United States citizen, what solutions or help do you think you could offer the country?
- And finally, why is it important that we as United States citizens understand and help other countries around the world.
