03. File Management

Directions: Develop a file management system for saving and backing up computer files. Such systems may include utilizing a networked folder, a web-based storage space, a removable storage device, or a directory such as MyDocuments located on a local computer hard drive. It is recommended that you utilize a flash drive such as a 512M or bigger usb drive and each day save a backup copy of your work in your MyDocuments folder on your home computer.

  1. Identify the storage device that you will utilize for this project.
  2. Create a primary folder or directory and name it with your first initial and last name. Utilize lower case letters for all file and folder names. ie. rsmith
  3. Create sub folders as directed throughout the various units.
  4. Save your files to appropriate folders as directed throughout the various units.
  5. Utilize a backup system such as a floppy disk, cd, or portable drive to save a copy of your primary root folder. The primary root folder is the folder you named above.
